Description:
We were traveling from New Glasgow to Barss Corner, we had planned on just taking the highway but when we left we took a couple of off-beat roads. It wasn't long till there was nothing but a dirt road and trees all around. We drove for a long time ever wondering where we were actually going.
It's not really that hard to find it's just that I had been getting to it the back way. When we followed the road out it was a lot easier to find it from the other direction instead the way we had gotten there.
There is a small picnic area in the woods behind the sign with outhouses and such but that's not why we're here, we want to see what's on the other side of this fence that is near the far side of the picnic area. Now a safety note here this place is spectacular and breath taking but there is also danger here. Although there is a fairly well kept fence at the edge the drop on the other side is nothing to take lightly.
As we look down over the side we can see the river far below through the tops of the trees that line the downward slope. We can here the rushing sound of water flowing over the rocks below. It's a birds eye view as you look down upon the top of the waterfall, but if your like me you still want to get closer to the action.
So we follow the fence all along the path to one end where it stops and we can look up river further but nothing more. So we track back and follow it along until this time, coming across a steep set of stairs that go down the not so dramatic part of the slope.
Once reaching the bottom of the stairs I am a bit disappointed. There seems to be a rock face in the way of my view from where I stand. So I take a quick snapshot and decide to venture for a better vantage point around the rock. It's a little tricky to get there but it's worth the view if that's what your after.
Peeking around the corner I get a whole new picture of what the fence is really protecting visitors from. The drop from the cliff to the water is a steep one.
The waterfall is quite spectacular and worth a visit and some pictures. The trail is fairly easy going although the stairs can be slippery when they're wet. I'm sure that this will be a spot we will visit again in the future.
