Memorial Bell Tower

Directions:
From Barrington Street turn onto Young St. Limited parking can be found on the small side street of Needham across from the United Memorial Church.

Description:
On December 6, 1917 the ship Mont Blanc caught fire and blew up in Halifax Harbour, causing massive destruction to the area. The Halifax Explosion Memorial Bell Tower was built at Fort Needham Memorial Park in 1985 to remember those lost in the disaster on that December day. It's also honors the survivors that re-built the area in the years that followed the explosion.

The United Memorial Church, on nearby Kaye Street, donated the ten original bells hanging in the tower. On every December 6, just before 9:05 a.m., an annual remembrance ceremony is held at the bell tower to remember those lost. This hilltop provides a great viewpoint of the surrounding city and also sports a few sports fields for visitor's enjoyment.
