Louisbourg Lighthouse

Directions:
Travel to Louisbourg and then take Havenside Road near the tourist info center and then follow the road to the lighthouse.

Description:
This is the spot of the first lighthouse in Canada and the second in North America. The remnants of the lighthose foundation, built by the French in 1734, are still visible. During the British siege of 1758 the lighthouse was heavily damaged and left in unrepair until 1824 when it was replaced.

The current Louisbourg Lighthouse was built in 1924 right next to the original foundation from the first two towers. More info on this structure can be found at nearby Fortress Louisburg, which is located across the narrow entrance to Luoisbourg harbour.

There is also a hiking trail near this lighthouse, please refer to the local tourist info center for more info, until we add it to our web site.
