Fortress Louisbourg

Head to the town of Fortress Louisbourg and continue along Route 22 through town until you see a sign for the fortress.
Description:
Louisbourg, (pronounced as: looisbrg) was built in by France in the 1720-40's. Over the years the fortress was taken over by the British and then back to the French and the British again, which reduced it to ruins in 1768. In 1928 the site was declared a National Historic Site and in 1961 the Government of Canada starts to reconstruct one-fifth of the original site.
Fortress Louisburg has over 25 buildings open to the public, and many workers dressed in 1744 clothing and going about their daily chores.
There are also many great places to walk/hike to on this complex, with Escorted walking tours given in May / Oct 16 - 31. The main operating season is June st - Sept 30 th, and limited services on Oct st - Oct 15 th.
