About NovaTrails.com

NovaTrails.com was developed out of a need/wanting to share the natural wonders of Nova Scotia with people from around our province and also to visitors from around the world.

The main focus of NovaTrails.com is to provide informative articles and links on local hiking trails and hiking information in the province of Nova Scotia.

NovaTrails.com History

NovaTrails.com was launched on October 1st, 1998. Since that time our website has evolved into an in-depth knowledgebase for people who are interested in exploring Nova Scotia and everything there is to do in our province.

Trail Rating System

The trail rating system used here at NovaTrails is based on the trails condition at the time we explored the hike. These trail conditions may change without our knowledge and we do not guarantee that the information is current or up-to-date. Depending on your age and level of fitness you may also find the trails easier or harder then our rating.

We try to give trails a rating that will be informative and helpful for the average hiker. The trails are grouped into four main ratings, they are:

Easy
These trails are mostly level, maybe with some small up/downhill sections. The trail surface is good to great and they are usually short trails with easy navigation.

Moderate
Usually trails that are a bit longer with some up/downhill sections, the trail surface is good to fair. Navigation is usually easy but may vary.

Difficult
Fairly long trails that are strenuous because of their length and/or the condition of the trail surface. They may be difficult to navigate and have sections of hazards such as branches, routes or vegetation.

Extreme
Trails with this rating may be short or long and usually involve a steep up/downhill section. The trail surface may be poor to bad in some cases and navigation may be difficult. Also you may encounter hazards on the trail such as branches, roots, vegetation or debris. Bushwhacking may be involved.
